Balafon Beach Resort is a Gambian-owned, adults-only retreat set along the Atlantic Ocean in Kololi. The resort blends traditional West African design with contemporary beachfront comfort, featuring thatched-roof buildings, tropical gardens and pools that meander throughout the property.
Its 88 rooms include garden- and ocean-view accommodations, along with swim-up rooms offering direct access to the resort’s freshwater pools.
Balafon Beach Resort offers an intimate alternative to The Gambia’s larger modern resorts. Its African-inspired architecture, lush landscaping and interconnected pools create a distinctive tropical atmosphere.
The peaceful adults-only setting is particularly suited to couples, friends and solo travellers. Guests can relax on the beach while remaining approximately two kilometres from the restaurants, shops, nightlife and craft market of the Senegambia Strip.
Balafon Beach Resort is owned by Gambian entrepreneurs Malleh Sallah and Omar Jawara through Djeliba Leisure Group. The locally owned hospitality company also operates Kalimba Beach Resort, TUI BLUE Tamala and Djembe Beach Resort.
The resort’s name comes from the balafon, a traditional West African wooden percussion instrument similar to a xylophone. Its thatched roofs, natural materials and African-inspired design reflect the cultural identity behind the property.
Djeliba Leisure Group is equally co-owned by Sallah and Jawara, representing substantial Gambian ownership within the country’s beachfront tourism industry.
Balafon is not exclusively an all-inclusive resort. Depending on the selected room rate, guests may book:
