Historical Significance & “Tudor Revival” Design
- 1882 Origins: Built by the Norfolk and Western Railway, the hotel originally served as a modest 34-room inn for railroad workers before evolving into a grand centerpiece for the city.
- Architectural Legacy: While it began in the Queen Anne style, major renovations in 1937–38 gave the hotel its signature Tudor Revival facade, complete with Florentine marble floors, frescoes, and vaulted ceilings.
