The origins of Kruger Shalati Train trace back to the late 1800s, when the Selati Railway was built following the discovery of gold in the region. Completed in 1915, the railway ran through the area now known as Kruger National Park, which had yet to be established at the time.

Today, Kruger Shalati is a luxury lodge owned by Motsamayi Tourism Group, the oldest Black-empowered tourism company in South Africa. With a 51% Black ownership in partnership with Futuregrowth Asset Management, Motsamayi is dedicated to curating authentic African experiences and driving growth in the tourism industry.
