A Black-owned, veteran-led farm retreat offering peaceful cabin and farmhouse stays in rural North Carolina.
Located near Enfield in Halifax County, North Carolina, Clanton’s Farm Retreat is a Black-owned, veteran-led family farm offering peaceful accommodations surrounded by woods, fields and nature.
Created by husband-and-wife hosts Ocie and Dr. Diane G. Clanton, the retreat is designed as a place to slow down, unplug and reconnect. Guests can choose from a secluded woodland cabin or a larger farmhouse stay, with additional cabins, glamping sites and outdoor retreat spaces planned for the property.
Tucked among the trees, the retreat’s private woodland cabin is designed for travelers looking for a quiet, intentionally simple escape.
The cabin accommodates up to six guests, with two sleeping lofts featuring full-size beds plus additional sleeping space. Guests have a full bathroom and a compact kitchen area equipped with a microwave, electric cooktop, Keurig, toaster, cookware and dining essentials.
There is no Wi-Fi, encouraging guests to disconnect, although cellular service and personal hotspots can be used when needed.
The cabin is currently generator-powered while permanent electrical service is being developed.
Travelers needing more space can also stay at the Clanton’s Farm Retreat Farmhouse in Enfield.
The farmhouse provides a more traditional home-style experience with multiple bedrooms, a full kitchen, living and dining spaces, Wi-Fi and a spacious country setting. It is particularly well suited to families, groups and longer stays.
Clanton’s Farm Retreat offers something very different from a traditional hotel or B&B.
Guests can wake up surrounded by trees, enjoy coffee on the porch, walk the property, gather around the fire pit or simply spend time away from the distractions of everyday life.
The farm is also conveniently located less than 10 minutes from I-95, making it an interesting Black-owned alternative for travelers driving through eastern North Carolina.
Nearby attractions include Historic Halifax State Historic Site, Roanoke Canal Museum & Trail, Lake Gaston and Sylvan Heights Bird Park, while Rocky Mount is approximately 25 minutes away.
Clanton’s Farm Retreat is Black-owned and personally hosted by Ocie and Dr. Diane G. Clanton, a husband-and-wife team who have been married for more than 35 years.
Ocie is a United States Navy veteran, and his experiences with military service, stress and the importance of meaningful rest helped shape the couple’s vision for the retreat. Dr. Diane G. Clanton is a Christian chaplain whose work centers on encouragement, counseling and caring for others.
Together, the Clantons are transforming their family farm into a nature-based retreat centered on rest, faith, family, veterans and community.
Their long-term vision includes additional cabins, glamping sites, walking trails, outdoor gathering areas, fire pits and spaces for small group retreats.
Each stay also helps support the couple’s goal of preserving family land and creating a lasting retreat legacy in Halifax County.
