A Black-owned glamping retreat combining nature, culture and community on 94 acres in Middle Georgia.
Located in Toomsboro, Georgia, Nu Kemet Glamping Village offers a distinctive outdoor escape on 94 acres of Black-owned land. Part of the larger Nu Kemet Retreat & Residential Community, the property is being developed by the Black Achievement Fund (BAF) as an intentional destination centered on Black culture, community, wellness and connection to the land.
Guests can currently choose between furnished glamping tent cottages and traditional tent camping while enjoying miles of nature trails, fire pits, outdoor recreation and special cultural events under the Georgia sky.
Nu Kemet’s Glamping Tent Cottages provide a comfortable introduction to outdoor living without requiring guests to bring all of their own camping equipment.
Each approximately 300-square-foot cottage is furnished with hotel-quality mattresses, pillows and linens and includes air conditioning and generator-powered electricity. Guests also have access to coffee-making equipment, coolers, grills, a shared fire pit and outdoor recreational equipment.
The experience remains intentionally close to traditional camping. Restroom facilities currently consist of clean portable toilets and hand-washing stations rather than private en-suite bathrooms.
For travelers who prefer a more traditional outdoor experience, Nu Kemet also offers standard tent sites, with potable water, nearby restroom facilities and access to the property’s trails.
Nu Kemet is more than a campground. It is part of an ambitious effort to create an intentional Black-centered retreat and residential community in rural Georgia.
Guests can spend their time hiking, relaxing around a fire, playing outdoor games, exploring the land or attending one of Nu Kemet’s cultural events and overnight programs.
The property is also well positioned for a weekend escape from Atlanta, while Macon and Milledgeville provide nearby museums, historic attractions, restaurants and cultural experiences.
Nearby destinations include Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, the Otis Redding Center for the Arts, Georgia’s Old Governor’s Mansion and Andalusia, the former home of writer Flannery O’Connor.
Nu Kemet Glamping Village operates on Black-owned land as part of the Black Achievement Fund’s Nu Kemet Retreat & Residential Community.
Led by Black Achievement Fund President Arkee Hodges, the larger Nu Kemet vision is designed to create an intentional community celebrating Black culture while promoting land ownership, economic development, wellness and collective growth.
The long-term plan extends well beyond today’s glamping village. Nu Kemet’s proposed amenities include distinctive pyramid-inspired A-frame homes, a clubhouse, restaurant and bar, spa and wellness facilities, swimming pools, fitness facilities, art and gathering spaces, a farm and greenhouse, animal farm, event lawns and additional accommodations.
BAF is also working toward development of Pyramid 1, a planned three-bedroom guest house that would become another overnight accommodation within the community.
For travelers, Nu Kemet offers the unusual opportunity to experience the project while it is still growing—from camping and glamping on the land today to a much larger Black-centered retreat destination envisioned for the future.
