The hotel is particularly well suited to couples, solo travelers, business travelers and diaspora visitors looking for an independently owned alternative to international hotel chains.

Ownership & Heritage

The Palms Luxury Boutique Hotel is a Black woman-owned hotel founded by Senegalese entrepreneur and hotelier Souadou Niang.

Born and raised in Dakar, Niang moved to the United States as a young woman and began working in hospitality as a housekeeper at a Ritz-Carlton hotel in the Washington, D.C. area. Over the following decade, she worked her way into hotel management, gaining firsthand experience in luxury hospitality.

Niang eventually returned to Senegal with a vision of creating an independently owned boutique hotel capable of delivering international luxury standards while showcasing Senegalese hospitality.

After overcoming significant challenges securing financing for the project, she transformed that vision into The Palms Luxury Boutique Hotel.

Her journey from hotel housekeeper to hotel owner has since received international attention and makes The Palms an especially significant example of Black-owned and woman-owned hospitality entrepreneurship in Africa.

The hotel has also been recognized for creating employment opportunities for Senegalese women, with women comprising a substantial portion of its workforce.
