Formerly Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre Johannesburg, O.R. Tambo Airport
Destiny Exclusive Hotel & Convention Centre, located near O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, is the new identity being introduced for the 248-room hotel currently operating as the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre Johannesburg, O.R. Tambo Airport. The property was originally conceptualized and developed by Black-owned Akani Properties and is now being presented by Destiny Exclusive Hotels as the flagship of its emerging South African hospitality portfolio.
The 248-room hotel was conceptualized and developed by Akani Properties, the 100% Black-owned South African property development, investment and management company led by Zamani Letjane. Originally opened in 2020 as the Radisson Hotel & Convention Centre Johannesburg, O.R. Tambo, the property is now entering a new chapter under the Destiny Exclusive Hotels identity.
With an international convention center, full-service spa, heated indoor pool, fitness facilities, multiple dining venues and complimentary airport transportation, Destiny offers considerably more than a typical airport hotel.
The main hotel features 248 contemporary rooms and suites, designed for both international leisure travelers and business guests passing through Johannesburg.
Destiny also promotes an executive lounge and room service, while the larger hotel precinct has historically included additional boutique accommodations and apartment-style units.
Destiny currently describes the hotel as having three dining outlets, including a restaurant, lounge bar and poolside Lapa bar.
Wellness is another major component of the property. The Destiny Spa includes a heated indoor pool and fitness facilities, making the hotel particularly attractive for travelers looking to rest and recharge before or after a long international flight.
This property was built to be much more than an airport stopover.
Its substantial convention facilities make Destiny particularly suitable for conferences, corporate events, meetings, weddings and large groups, positioning the property within Johannesburg’s important meetings and events market.
That continues today: the property is already being advertised as Destiny Exclusive Hotel & Convention Centre for major 2026 conferences.
For international travelers, one of Destiny’s biggest advantages is its proximity to O.R. Tambo International Airport.
The hotel currently provides a complimentary airport shuttle, with scheduled departures between the hotel and airport throughout the day. Advance booking is required.
That makes the property particularly convenient for overnight connections, early departures, business trips and travelers beginning or ending a longer South African itinerary.
Destiny has an unusually well-documented Black hospitality development story.
The hotel was conceptualized and developed by Akani Properties, which describes itself as a 100% Black-owned property development, investment and management company.
When the hotel opened in 2020, Akani reported that approximately R545 million had been invested in developing the 248-room hotel, part of a larger R950-million hospitality and convention development.
