The new Destiny Exclusive Hotel & Convention Centre, located in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, brings upscale accommodations, wellness and large-scale events to one of South Africa’s important travel corridors.

Opening September 4, 2026, the R350-million development features 150 rooms and suites, along with a major convention center, restaurant, bar, spa and fitness facilities. Its location near the N4 makes Destiny particularly convenient for business travelers and visitors traveling between Johannesburg, Pretoria and the Kruger National Park region.

The property also represents an important Black hospitality development story in South Africa. It was developed by Akani Properties, a 100% Black-owned and managed South African property development and investment company led by Zamani Letjane.

A Gateway to Mpumalanga & Kruger

One of Destiny’s strongest advantages for leisure travelers is its location.

Middelburg sits along the major road corridor connecting Gauteng with Mpumalanga’s Lowveld and Kruger National Park, making the hotel a potential upscale stopover for travelers driving east from Johannesburg or Pretoria.

The property is also located close to Middelburg Mall, with more than 140 shops, restaurants and services nearby.

Meetings, Conferences & Events

Destiny was developed as much more than an overnight hotel.

Its 1,000-seat convention center and accompanying breakaway rooms make the property one of the more substantial new conference facilities in the Middelburg area.

The development had already demonstrated its event capabilities before its official opening by hosting the Middelburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s investment summit and gala dinner in July 2026.

Black Development & Ownership Story

The Destiny Exclusive Hotel & Convention Centre is an important addition to South Africa’s growing Black-led hospitality landscape.

The R350-million property was developed by Akani Properties, a 100% Black-owned and managed South African property development, investment and management company founded in 2005 and led by managing director Zamani Letjane. Akani manages more than 50 properties across several South African provinces, including hospitality assets.

The Middelburg hotel was developed on behalf of the Municipal Employees Pension Fund (MEPF) and will be independently managed by Carnation Hotels under the Destiny brand.

Destiny Exclusive Hotel & Convention Centre is a strong choice for travelers seeking:

Business & conference travel • Mpumalanga road trips • Luxury stopovers • Wellness stays • Johannesburg-to-Kruger journeys • Events & celebrations

Its combination of modern accommodations, wellness amenities, extensive event facilities and strategic location makes it particularly interesting for travelers exploring South Africa beyond the traditional Johannesburg and Cape Town hotel markets.
