Ownership & Heritage
River Meadow Manor is owned by Black South African hotelier Siyanda Dlamini, who acquired the property in 2019 through his hospitality business. Dlamini is a graduate of the Cape Town Hotel School and previously held management positions with Protea Hotels before building his own hotel portfolio.
The manor was constructed in 1929 and once served as an entertainment residence for South African statesman Jan Christiaan Smuts and his wife, Isie. Under Dlamini’s ownership, a property connected to South Africa’s segregated past entered a new chapter under Black hospitality leadership.
The acquisition represents a meaningful example of transformation within South Africa’s hotel industry, while preserving the manor’s architecture, gardens and historical character.
