From a Rwandan Farm to a Lake Kivu Resort
The story behind Nirvana Heights Resort & Spa begins with Adrienne Mukamitali, a Rwandan entrepreneur whose original plans for the property had little to do with hotels.
Mukamitali purchased land in Rubavu near Lake Kivu to grow pasture for her cattle while she was involved in dairy farming. According to an interview she gave to Rwanda Dispatch, she was working on the farm when the extraordinary views surrounding the property sparked an entirely different idea.
Standing on the land and looking across Lake Kivu and the surrounding green hills, she envisioned creating a vacation home where that natural beauty could be enjoyed.
The idea soon became much bigger.
In 2014, Mukamitali began developing the concept. Rather than building only a private vacation home, she decided to create a hospitality business that could welcome visitors to the region while contributing to Rwanda’s development and creating employment for Rwandans. Construction of Nirvana Heights Resort was completed approximately two years later.
