Why Visit Here
The Historic Hampton House is far more than a museum—it is a living monument to resilience, culture, and Black excellence. Often referred to as “The Social Center of the South,” the property was one of the few places where Black celebrities, athletes, and activists could gather safely and freely during segregation. It is also believed that Dr. King worked on an early version of his famous “I Have a Dream” speech while staying at the Hampton House.

Painstakingly restored through the efforts of preservationist Enid Pinkney and community advocates, the Hampton House now stands as one of the nation’s most powerful cultural and educational landmarks dedicated to African American history.

Traveler Tip
Book a guided tour to fully appreciate the stories behind the property and its famous guests. If you’re visiting Miami for Black history, culture, or civil rights tourism, this landmark should absolutely be on your itinerary.
